ITINERARY - CLICK ON THE DAY FOR MORE DETAILS

DAY 1 - FERRY PORTSMOUTH TO SANTANDER

We meet at Portsmouth for the evening ferry to Santander which is a great chance to spend the evening and the following day relaxing and getting to know each other and it also avoids the long drive down through France. The ferry and cabins are included in the price; if you would like to upgrade to luxury suites, please contact us after booking.

DAY 2 - SANTANDER TO TORDESILLAS

You have arrived in Spain! We now head off in convoy to spend the night in Tordesillas, usually arriving at around 8.30pm. We eat in a local restaurant before retiring for the night after a day of travelling.

DAY 3 - TORDESILLAS TO ALGECIRAS

We're on the road and heading across Spain to our destination, Algeciras which is about 20Km from Gibralter. Our hotel for the night is only 20 minutes drive from the port, making it an easier start in the morning.

DAY 4 - ALGERIRAS TO CHEFCHAOUEN

An early start so we can get one of the first ferry crossing from Algeciras to Tangiers Med. The crossing gives great views looking back to the rock of Gibralter and forward to our desintation, Morocco! Once off the ferry we're straight on to the tracks and heading to Chefchaouen, arriving late after noon and giving an opportunity to explore the amazing Blue City, do some shopping and sample the local cuisine in the old town centre.

DAY 5 - CHEFCHOAUEN TO IFRANE

Our route takes us on winding mountain roads before descending towards the lake behind the El Wahda dam. This is remote country and you'll get your first taste of life in the rural Moroccan landscape. Morocco is a land of contrasts and we finish the day on the edge of the Atlas mountains near the resort of Ifrane.

DAY 6 - IFRANE TO ERFROUD

A day of contrasts! We leave Ifrane and continue our journey south, leaving the forested mountains behind and heading into a more barren landscape. We end the day in Erfoud, an oasis town on the edge of the Sahara.

DAY 7 - ERFROUD TO THE PORTE DE SAHARA

Today we head into the sand and the desert. Heading south to Merzouga we pass through Erg Chebbi, an area of enormous sand dunes which tower above the desert. If time allows, there's a chance to drive the dunes before head through the arrid desert to our destination for the night, the Porte De Sahara. This is a remote auberge on the edge of the desert, which offers great food but - by necessity - more basic accommodation.

DAY 8 - PORTE DE SAHARA TO ZAGORA

A taste of the desert! You'll drive all terrains from dry river beds and sandy dunes to crossing salt flats and climbing rocky tracks to enjoy unbeatable views across the Northern Sahara. This is an extraordinary landscape! We end our day in Zagora where there's an opportunity to get your vehicle checked over, and any issues rectified, at the local garage. Our accommodation is an oasis of orange and lemon trees, with a cool swimming pool, in the heart of the town.

DAY 9 - TALIOUINDAY 9 - ZAGORA TO FOUM Z'GUIDE TO TATA

Tracking westwards to follow dry-rivers and tracks over the peaks to a landscape of dunes and salt lakes. We stop for lunch on the edge of Lake Iriki, which we drive across in the afternoon - the dry lake bed means an opportunity to drive side by side across this vaste, open landscape. After this the rocky landscape gives way to a tarmac road which leads to our destination, Foum Z'Guid and a welcome dip in the hotel pool!

DAY 10 - FOUM Z'GUID TO TATA

We start on tarmac, but we soon hit the mountain tracks as we head into incredible dry river beds and vast canyons which open out into wide plains. We’ll pass Berber camps on the way to Tata, a basic border town. Our accommodation is an auberge built into the ruins on the hillside overlooking the palm rees. This is authentic Morocco and very much off the beaten track!

DAY 11 - TATA TO TAFROUTE

We head into the open plains with expansive views for miles around, with the mountains in the distance turning from light to dark red as the day unfold. We drive down a river bed in a stunning gorge and through remote villages, before heading to a luscious oasis. We end our day in the bustling town of Tafraoute and stay in a beautiful Moroccan hotel.

DAY 12 - TAFROUTE TO MARRAKECH

Our time in the Sahara draws to a close and we head north to Marrakech. While this is day of tarmac, the route takes us over the Tizni 'n Test pass which is one of the highest routes in Morocco. A head for heights is required as we climb to nearly 7,000ft, pausing for lunch at the top before the descent into the hustle and bustle of Marrakech

DAY 13 - MARRAKECH

Today is our rest day with the opportunity to spend it relaxing by the pool or to head into Marrakech and explore the city. If you want to go into the city we will be available to accompany you and provide all the guidance you need to make the most of your visit.

DAY 14 - MARRAKECH TO ALGECIRAS

An early start is required as we take the main roads out of Marrakech and head north, passing Cassablanca on our way to Tangier Med and the ferry back to Spain. We aim to get the ferry late afternoon so you can arrive at the hotel in good time for a meal and a chance to relax after the day's travels

DAY 15 - ALGECIRAS TO SALAMANCA

We head northwards on the motorways to Salamanca which is the jewel of Northern Spain. An ancient and historical city it's well worth exploring before we all meet for the end of tour meal in the main square, whcih is itself a sight to behold!

DAY 16 - SALAMANCA TO SANTANDER

We have a leisurely drive now to Santander on quiet Spanish motorways, with plenty of time to stock up on jamón ibérico before catching the evening ferry to Portsmouth – a chance to relax and spend time sharing memories, stories, photographs and addresses with the friends you’ve made on the trip. We arrive in Portsmouth around 8.30pm the following day when we bid farewell and travel home.
